Young-dog class

Surviving Adolescence

Real-life skills for dogs beyond puppy class and up to approximately two or three years old.

Six-week positive-reinforcement program

A challenging life stage

Help a young dog become a thoughtful adult

Adolescent dogs can become more independent, distractible, energetic, and difficult to manage. This class helps families understand the developmental stage while building clearer communication and practical habits.

This is an everyday skills and manners class

It is not intended to re-socialize dogs with aggression or significant dog-directed reactivity. Speak with Jollytails first if your dog struggles around other dogs so the team can help identify a safer starting point.

Class is six weeks long, one hour per week, $170 plus HST.

Play, focus, and self-control are all part of adolescence.

What the class covers

Focus, self-control, and everyday reliability

Settle and think

Impulse control, calm behaviour, engagement, and attention to the handler.

Walk together

Leash manners, loose-leash walking, and passing distractions more successfully.

Come when called

Build a stronger recall through reward history and carefully increased difficulty.

Greet politely

Controlled greetings with people and alternatives to jumping up.

Prepare for class

Bring excellent rewards and humane equipment

Classes use positive reinforcement. Bring high-value treats, because everyday kibble may not compete with an exciting class environment. Retractable leashes, choke collars, and prong collars are not used. Family members are welcome, but the attending dog must be suitable for a group setting.
